Museums and Maidens – a Guided Tour of Raahe's Museums and the Historical Trade House

After the middle of the 19th century, Raahe was Finland's largest shipowning town. The exciting history of the bustling port town opens up to you in these two very special museums. In the Packhouse Museum, you will find natural wonders and exotic souvenirs brought by sailors from faraway locations. In the church hall, you can calm down amidst Mikael Balt's impressive 17th century wooden sculptures. At the Crown Magazine Museum, you will meet the Old Gentleman, the world’s oldest diving suit. Delicious bakery goods and coffee from porcelain rose cups are served by maidens dressed in the 19th century outfits at the Trade House of Lang.

The culturally and historically valuable Packhouse Museum, the former city customs and warehouse room, was once called a sjömanshus or a sailor's house. The Crown Warehouse, which was magnificently restored to modern use, used to serve as the state's grain warehouse. In this abundance of museum objects and stories of maritime and trade, you will find something new every time you visit. The most delicious dishes are prepared in the maidens’ kitchen at the Trade House of Lang, and in the shop, you will find wonderful gifts to take back home with you.
