Sustainability & Green Key

Sustainability & Green Key
At Langin Kauppahuone, sustainability is not a separate programme or a single project. It is a way of working – and it has been part of the story of this house from the very beginning.
When we began restoring Langin Kauppahuone in 2017, our aim was not to build something new, but to save something old. Historically valuable buildings were brought back to life with respect for their original character, so that they could continue their story for future generations.
We believe that caring for built heritage is one of the most important acts of sustainability we can take. When old buildings are repaired, used and maintained with care, natural resources are saved – and a piece of local history is preserved at the same time.
Green Key – a sign of responsible hospitality
Langin Kauppahuone has been awarded the Green Key certificate, one of the world’s best-known environmental labels in the tourism industry.
Green Key is awarded to accommodation and restaurant businesses that are committed to responsible practices and to continuously developing their operations with the environment in mind.
For us, Green Key does not mark the beginning of new work. It makes visible the work we have already been doing for many years.
Sustainability in everyday actions
Sustainability is reflected in our daily operations in many ways.
In our accommodation, we encourage guests to save water, use environmentally considerate bulk-size cosmetic products, and change towels and bed linen during the stay upon request. We continuously improve the energy efficiency of our buildings, while respecting the special characteristics of historic properties.
In our kitchen, lunches and pastries are prepared in-house. We favour the best seasonal ingredients, local producers and organic products whenever possible. We offer a vegetarian option every day and work to reduce food waste through responsible practices.
We sort and recycle waste carefully throughout our operations, and we also offer our guests the opportunity to take part in recycling.
Local roots, people and authentic experiences
For us, sustainability also means caring for people and the local community.
We work consistently with local businesses, producers and partners. We want to support the vitality of the region and offer our guests a genuine opportunity to discover Old Raahe, its history, culture and maritime surroundings.
We encourage our guests to explore the town on foot or by bicycle, and we provide information about nearby services, sights and public transport options.
Small actions, long-lasting impact
Sustainability is built through everyday choices. Every litre of water saved, every piece of furniture repaired, every local producer supported and every historic building cared for is part of a greater whole.
Our aim is to offer experiences that leave a lasting memory – but the lightest possible footprint.
We believe that small actions have a big impact – every choice leads towards a more sustainable future.
