Travel back in time to the golden age of sailing ships!

The sea captain Janne Byström sailed the oceans for 38 years. During his time, the Raahe sailing fleet recovered from the devastation caused by the Crimean War and grew into Finland's largest merchant fleet. In those decades, when sea captain Byström sailed the seas, he experienced the rise and fall of the Raahe sailing ship era first-hand. When the era of big sails ended in the late 19th century, the captain had to stay ashore. However, let him tell his story! In the old Raahe, each house hides a myriad of stories inside their walls. According to the sea captain, the old town comes to life, the streets are filled with life and people. The tour takes you through the old Raahe, one of Finland's best-preserved 19th-century wooden towns, and all the way to the award-winning Raahe archipelago.
Your trip starts from the Trade House of Lang, where ships brought goods for sale from all over the world. While having coffee, you’ll hear about life at the adjacent Pekka Square, the city’s commercial centre. Your trip will continue under the guidance of a tour guide with a short walk through the Old Raahe, exploring authentic historical sites and you will hear stories about the life of the Captain Janne on the Trade House of Lang ships. Next to the old seamen’s room, you get on a boat and in 20 minutes you are in the Raahe archipelago, the Iso-Kraaseli island, next to a historical wooden lighthouse. The guides are with you throughout the whole trip. The tour ends at Museonranta, Raahe.
