Treat Yourself

Our rooms are all individual and unique and include a comfortable bed and an en-suite shower room with towels and bath products. In the morning, you will wake up to the sent of freshly baked rolls and coffee – breakfast is served in the dining hall.

High-quality accommodation for special moments in life.
The merchant of the Lang House used to work in the corner room of the main building. In the front room, guests coming from further away were greeted by the accountant, who led the farmers and merchants further to the study to make deals. Another busy hub of the house must have been the Common House, where the servants lived. The Common House was located on the courtyard in another building, which now has been demolished.

The new Common House combines the merchant’s room’s dignified atmosphere to the common house’s peasant-style life in a unique way. During the renovation, a painting created in a splash-style was discovered in the corner of the merchant’s room, and now the painting is on the Common House’s wall where it suits perfectly. The Common House has two parts, and the original ceiling decoration in the small hall reaches all the way to the far end of the back part.

When you lie on the double bed, you can look at the painting in the ceiling and think what the life must have been like in this large corner house by the Big Market Square 200 years before. Smaller guests can spend the night in a unique, antique cupboard bed if they wish. You can leave the door ajar if you feel like it… The sofa in the Common House makes a comfortable double bed for two adults. The time stops in the Common House, and you will forget all about stress and being busy!

High-quality accommodation for special moments in life. Janne Byström lived at sea for 38 years – for more than half of his life. He worked as a seaman for 15, a mate for 6 and a sea captain for 17 years. Janne was interested in birds, and it is not an exaggeration to that he was both a sea captain and an ornithologist in one. The captain had bought bird cages and even some birds during his trips, but his favourite hobby was to catch birds that had flown onto the ship and add them to his “collection”. In his cabin, he had ceilings full of birds in cages: canaries, goldfinches, and other singing birds. He didn’t have a parrot, even though many had brought one home.

High-quality accommodation for special moments in life. Johan Lang received his merchant rights in 1771. When Johan’s house burnt down in the fire of Raahe in 1810, he claimed two plots in the new town plan near the Big Market Square, which was a real cornering. In 1811, he had Lang’s Lower Manor House built on the north-west corner of the Big Market Square and the Lang main building in 1812.

Madam Johanna’s Room

High-quality accommodation for special moments in life. Johanna Gustava Franzén née Lang (1796-1826) was the daughter of Johan Lang, who built the house, and Sofia Vidbäck. In 1814, Johanna got married to Zachris Franzén (1787-1852) who worked as an accountant at her father’s trade house. Johan Lang and Sofia Vidbäck (1760-1834) had only daughters. During those times, one’s wealth was inherited from the father, not from the mother, and the inherited wealth was always taken care of by a man, whether that was one’s father, husband or son. The owner family of the Lang Trade House changed thus twice when the company was transferred through marriage first to the Franzén family (1823) and afterwards to the Sovelius family (1859).

A house full of stories! Hotel rooms at the House of Lang each tell a story of a person who lived back in the 19th century.

All our hotel rooms are dedicated to persons who were important to the House of Lang back in time. A person’s life story has been the starting point for the room décor planning, and the room decoration has been placed to a specific important moment in time for the person in question.

The Sea Captain’s Cabin tells the story of a time when the Captain Janne Byström spent his retirement days in the home harbour of Raahe in the 1890s when Raahe’s glorious sailing ship era had ended. The Miss Sophia’s Chamber is decorated in the style from the time when Sofia had slept her last maiden night in it on the 13th of February in 1843. Each room owner has his or her story to tell, and they will tell those stories to you via the AR application when you are their guests in the rooms!
